BlueStar
Latent Blood ReAgent

QPST has exclusive rights to Bluestar™ products in Australia and New Zealand.

Bluestar provides the forensic technician with an efficient means to ascertain the presence of blood, or its possible absence. Bluestar is easy to use: simply dissolve Bluestar tablets in sterile water and spray on any surface. Moreover, Bluestar does not alter DNA and thus allows for subsequent DNA testing. With Bluestar, forensic technicians now have the possibility to systematically test more conclusively, suspicious stains in search of blood evidence.  The Bluestar kit contains individual water-soluble test tablets easily carried in the field. It can be stored safely for a long time without risk of alteration or deterioration.

Extreme Sensitivity

Bluestar is currently the most sensitive presumptive field test for blood. Invisible stains react immediately to Bluestar, provoking an intense blue color luminescence (430 nm wavelength) visible to the naked eye in semi-darkness. Its 1/1000 sensitivity is such that it will evidence blood in quantities smaller than is currently required for DNA typing (1/100). Bluestar luminescence lasts for several minutes and since Bluestar can be sprayed repeatedly on the same stain, its observation and recording (pictures/video) are very easy to record. Evidence photographs can be taken using standard photographic equipment.

Advantages

  1. Very High Sensitivity
  2. Strong Intensity Luminescence
  3. Long Lasting Luminescence
  4. The Reaction Does Not require Total darkness To Be Visible,
  5. Can Be Used To Treat The Same Bloodstain Several Times
  6. Does Not Require Special Equipment To Photographically Record Evidence
  7. Allows For DNA Typing
  8. Stable Over Time
  9. Non Toxic
  10. Easy To Use

Hexagon OBTI

HEXAGON OBTI is the perfect complement to BLUESTAR FORENSIC. This rapid screening test verifies that a bloodstain is human blood.

What is it?

HEXAGON OBTI is a two-part test: a collection tube for the blood sample, and a test bar.

A sample of the presumed human blood trace is transferred into the tube with transport medium. This mixture is added drop by drop to the test. A positive sample is typically detected within 2-3 minutes.
A single blue line means the testing liquid is working fine but no human blood has been detected, two blue lines mean the test has detected human blood.

Box of 24 tests
Each box includes 24 collection tubes, 24 tests, and 25 labels for specimen identification.

Principle:

Human haemoglobin (hHb) in the sample reacts with a reagent consisting of blue colored particles and monoclonal anti-human Hb antibodies. The immunocomplex migrates to the test zone where it is captured by an immobilized second antibody directed against hHb forming a blue test line to indicate a positive result . Unreacted reagents migrate further and are bound in a second line by immobilized anti-mouse lgC antibodies. This control line indicates proper function and correct handling of the test.

The detection limit in terms of Hb concentration in the transport medium is 0.1 µg/ml Hb (dilution 1/5000).
